Lush Rush – S/T 7”
Lush Rush are a 5 piece female band from Paris, France, who have taken elements of their musical tastes such as the 90’s Riot Grrrl movement, punk, grunge, metal and 90’s alternative to create a wonderful post-punk sound. The band formed in 2014 and released a few songs on their Bandcamp page before being picked up by Contra Records for this debut 7”. If you are into bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Coathangers, Joy Division, and Le Tigre then you should definitely check out Lush Rush.
I have always liked post-punk but these days I tend to listen to the heavier side of the punk genre but I have to the band had me hooked after the 1st listen and made realise what I love about the genre. First up is ‘Gold Digger’, a cracking song with a great melodies, brilliant riffs and an excellent Siouxsie Sioux-esque vocal performance and is an excellent start to the E.P. After the excellent start for me the E.P gets even better with ‘The Hunt’, a much darker sounding song than ‘Gold Digger’ with the bass intro setting the tone for what is an excellent song and my favourite track. The E.P comes to a close with ‘Daily Grind’, a decent song but for me is the weaker track of the three but still has all the elements of post-punk and makes for a good listen.
Lush Rush who have given us a good introduction to what they do and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
