Cuttin’ Edge – Face Down
Cuttin’ Edge are a bunch of Skins, Punks and Metalheads from Edinburgh, Scotland who got together in 2018 and in a short space of time had enough material to start recording. The 4-piece of Roddy (vocals), Luigi (guitar), Luca (bass) and Chino (drums) play loud, in your face punk rock that has elements of the Exploited, Mötorhead and classic British punk and Oi! and the results are fantastic. The band recently released their impressive debut album ‘Face Down’ through Rebellion Records and it is well worth checking out.
The 10 tracks on ‘Face Down’ are well-written, fast paced punk rock that are riff-heavy and have great melodies. First up is ‘Play it Loud’, a cracking slice of melodic punk rock which as the title needs to be played loud. The band continue the great start with ‘False Advice’, ‘World Away’ and the excellent ‘Shit Generation’ before the title track blasts through the speakers which has more of a metal feel to it than the previous tracks but is still as enjoyable.
The second half of the continues the excellent start of the first with 5 great tracks including ‘Accident Emergency’, ‘Genocide’ and ‘Religion’. I have to say though that the band have saved the best two tracks until last with ‘Only The Strong’ and ‘How Do We Know’. Both are fast paced gems that have an Exploited feel to them and close the album brilliantly.
Cuttin’ Edge are a band to keep an eye on and have delivered an impressive album which is worth checking out. So grab yourself a beer and play it loud!
