The Young Ones – Cream Of The Crop

Contra Records & LSM Vinyl

One of my favourite records of the last couple of years was ‘Greatest Hits Vol.II by Dutch 5-piece The Young Ones. So, when their new album dropped into my inbox, I was eager to see how the band could follow up such a killer record and I have to say they have given us another incredible record. If it isn’t broke, then don’t fix it and that is exactly what the band have done with ‘Cream Of The Crop’ as they have given us 7 catchy and hard-hitting Oi! anthems.

The band have an 80’s British Oi! sound like the Rejects, Sham 69 and The Business which they make sound relevant to today. If you are fans of current bands like Lions Law, Arch Rivals, Vanilla Muffins to name a few you should give them a listen.

Right from the off the band have my attention with title track, a fast-paced song that sets the album up brilliantly. Next up is ‘City 043’, a catchy track which starts off with a great little riff and leads brilliantly into ‘On The Chin, a cracking song with a brilliant sing-along chorus. After a great start, the band keep delivering killer anthem after anthem like ‘The Jive’, ‘B&G and ‘Take It From Us’. ‘Take It From Us’ is a brilliantly melodic track with a Rejects-esque bassline and is probably my favourite track on the album. ‘Cream of The Crop’ ends with the excellent ‘Bobby’s Guns’, a great hard-hitting Oi! anthem that I just can’t get enough of.

I have to say that The Young Ones have done it again and have released an album that is packed with killer anthems that will be one my stereo for some time to come. Do yourselves a favour and add this record to your collection.
