The Warriors/Mob Mentality – Brothers in Oi!

Laketown Records, Clockwork Punk & 8 Up Records

Over the last year or so I have had some excellent split E.P’s sent to me and I am a big fan of the format as it brings bands from different scenes, countries and era’s together and this E.P is a great example of this. ‘Brothers in Oi!’ gives us The Warriors from the UK and Mob Mentality from the USA who each give us 2 killer tracks which make for a hell of a release.

‘Brothers in Oi!’ not only brings together bands from different scenes and countries but also from different generations. The Warriors have been playing their brand of traditional Oi! for 40 years with nothing left to prove while Mob Mentality have been giving us their American skinhead sound for about 4 years and have a reputation that is growing with every release. What they do have in common is that they are both excellent bands that I could listen to for hours on end.

The 2 Warriors tracks bookend the E.P and show that the band are just as relevant now as they were when they formed back in 1981. ‘Riot in Progress’ and ‘This is My Anger’ are cracking songs full of great riffs, well-written lyrics that are delivered brilliantly by Graham Saxby. This is Oi! at it’s very best!

Pennsylvania’s Mob Mentality may have only been around for a fairly short time but have released 2 great albums and several singles and are one of my favourite bands of the last few years. ‘Uncertain Times’ and ‘Good Friends’ carry on from the success of last year’s excellent ‘Dedication’ and are brilliant hard-hitting and catchy with killer sing-along choruses. Just brilliant!

All in all, this is a great record that everyone should own.
